Credit Risk Manager

Risk
Hybrid
Sydney
OR

Slice Group is the fintech group behind two fast-growing brands: Paylater Travel and Slice Pay. We're looking for a Credit Risk Manager to own our credit risk function across the group, end-to-end.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role reporting directly to our Chief Risk Officer. You'll lead the design and refinement of our credit models and policies, monitor portfolio health across both brands, and make sure risk thinking is embedded in commercial and product decisions from the start, not bolted on afterwards.

You’ll also be building out the credit risk team. This role is the hiring manager for a new direct report, meaning you’ll be leading a two-person function and shaping the team from the ground up.

This is a critical role, and there’s a clear path here for the right person. As the business scales, this role has a natural runway into Head of Risk or Head of Credit Strategy. If you're several years into your credit risk career, you know your craft, and you're ready to own and build a function rather than just contribute to one, this is worth a look.

What You'll Do

Own the credit strategy:  Design and implement credit risk strategies that balance customer growth with sustainable portfolio performance across PayLater Travel and Slice Pay. You'll set the direction, not just execute it.

Build and sharpen the models:  Develop and maintain predictive models for credit decisioning. Use data to identify trends early, pressure-test assumptions, and continuously improve our credit policies.

Hold the policy:  Define, maintain, and update our credit policies. Keep them compliant with Australian regulatory requirements and aligned with what the portfolio is actually telling you.

Watch the book:  Monitor credit portfolio performance across both brands, surface emerging risks early, and drive corrective action before small problems become expensive ones.

Influence cross-functional decisions:  Work closely with sales, product, operations, and data teams. Translate risk thinking into language that lands with non-technical stakeholders, and shape decisions without always having direct authority.

Report with clarity:  Prepare insight-led risk reports for senior leadership. Less data dump, more "here's what's happening and here's what we should do about it."

Build your team:  Lead your first direct report and hire your second into the credit risk function. Set the standard for how the team operates, coach and develop your hire, and lay the foundations for a high-performing risk team as the business scales.

What You'll Need

  • 4+ years of credit risk experience in fintech, banking, or lending
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, or comparable analytical tools
  • Proven ability to build or work closely with credit risk models and scorecards
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to accelerate analysis, model development, or decision-making… not just awareness, but active application
  • Solid understanding of ASIC's responsible lending obligations and the Australian credit regulatory landscape
  • Clear, confident communicator who can simplify complexity without losing accuracy
  • Someone who moves fast, takes ownership, and doesn't wait to be told what to do
  • Ready to hire, lead, and genuinely develop and grow a small, but impactful group of people

Bonus Points

  • Experience in BNPL, travel financing, or high-velocity consumer credit
  • Exposure to thin-file or alternative credit data decisioning
  • Awareness of the fraud-credit risk overlap, particularly in digital or travel contexts
  • Experience building or fine-tuning ML models for credit scoring or risk segmentation

Interview Process

We respect your time and want to give you a clear picture of what to expect:

  1. Initial Alignment Call: A conversation to explore mutual fit: your experience, what you’re looking for, and whether this role matches.
  2. Take-Home Case Study: A practical credit risk challenge designed to reflect the kind of work you’d actually do in this role. No trick questions, we want to see how you think.
  3. Case Study Presentation: Present your case study to two key leaders: our CFO and Chief Risk Officer. This is as much about how you communicate and defend your thinking as the technical output.

Final Stakeholder Interviews:

Meet with key stakeholders across Customer Operations and Commercial. These conversations are about cultural add, collaboration style, and how you’d work cross-functionally day-to-day.
